I don’t know whether there are many fake South African passports in circulation, but Ryanair seems to think that there a sufficient number to make some U.K.-bound travellers of apparently South African origin take a test to prove that they’re really originating in said country.
Passengers to be assessed are probably chosen at random, and I guess that only very few white people will be selected for assessment. Then the test can only be taken in Afrikaans, the language used by just 12% of the population that has long been identified with apartheid and the white minorities.
Now since the British government is very protective of its borders, why not introduce these tests to all travellers wishing to enter the United Kingdom? The French, for example, could be asked for their opinion on the Hundred Years‘ War and the Napoleonic Wars, the Germans could be asked questions on World War II, while visitors from Africa and India could be requested to submit essays about the advantages of life under British colonial rule.
Since many travellers don‘t need a visa to enter Britain, the test would have to be taken on arrival, at the airport, for example, and anyone failing the exam would be sent straight to a detention centre, for removal to Rwanda at the fist possible opportunity. That way at least they fill the plane, because when the Home Secretary stated that a flight costing £500‘000 to remove 7 or 8 unsuccessful asylum seekers was good value for money, she clearly was out of her depth.
The message Ryanair (which by the way is Irish) and the British government are sending out with their respective measures is heard loud and clear: we don‘t want your custom. Which makes me wonder, why anyone else right in their mind would.
