Happy New Year to all of you!

Now let’s face it, by the time I post and you read this blog entry, your new year’s resolutions may already have gone out of the window.. as might mine by the way…

Researchers say 60% of the population make new year’s resolutions, but only 8% are successful in achieving them (and to be honest, I count myself to the other 92%). And if you need any help in setting your goals for 2020, there are plenty of suggestions out there: resolutions for leaders, resolutions to look after your mental health and last but not least the ones to save the planet.

The most popular, however, will no doubt be the ones relating to fitness and lifestyle: Eat and drink less, exercise more. A vital first step in this direction is certainly the admission, that we indulged too much over the holidays. These extra Pounds have not only gone on our hips but our conscience as well. Here a few tips that may help you and me to stick with our goals:

  • Set small but measurable and achievable objectives
  • Change one behaviour at a time, don’t try to achieve everything in one go
  • Share your objectives with family and friends who will happily support you
  • Don’t beat yourself up if you experience setbacks
  • Celebrate success

And first and foremost make sure you really want to achieve your goal, and for that it doesn’t matter whether it’s a new year’s resolution or one you take at any time during the year. The beginning of a new year, the turning of a page of a sort, is certainly a good opportunity to make some changes, but only if you really want them – and if you want something, then any and every day can be the first day of a new you.
