In the developed world most people have had their Covid- 19 jabs by now and particularly among the older population acceptance to get vaccinated has always been running quite high.
But as numbers in do UK, France and Switzerland to name just a few countries show, vaccination initiatives are running out of steam, hence why many countries are now offering incentives to the unvaccinated to get their jabs.
In the USA, for example, incentives include dinner at the Governor’s residence in Washington or a scholarship for a place at one of the country’s elite universities. The state of Ohio, furthermore, organises a lottery with the winning ticket awarding $1 million to one lucky immunised resident, whereas $5 million are in the jackpot in New York.
More modest yet still quite fancy are the incentives to get vaccinated in Asia: In the Indonesian city of Canjur, a vaccinated person can look forward to a live chicken, and in Thailand even cows are raffled off. Eggs or flour are given away in Beijing, and occasionally also free drinks or vouchers.
Pure luxury, on the other hand, is offered after the vaccination in Hong Kong: Private parties in an Airbus or raffles for a Tesla model. The Australian airline Qantas, among others, is giving away one year of unlimited free flights to vaccinated people in order to combat vaccination fatigue. Russia is trying to persuade its residents to vaccinate by raffling off cars or luxury apartments.
With many countries now requiring vaccination certificates or negative tests for people to eat out in restaurants, hit the shops or even travel by train, the biggest incentive to get vaccinated is a return to some form of normality. Not to mention the free gift of a much lower risk of infection.
Want a supreme incentive? Consider: anyone who does NOT get the vaccine and subsequently comes down with COVID is guilty of a felony, subject to 5 years imprisonment and permanent disqualification from government benefit. Or better yet, no shots, contract COVID, required bedpan duty in a COVID ward for 5 years. Or no shots, contract COVID, be exiled to a COVID colony for life, where one will be free to be self-determining for the reminder of what life they may have. Self-centered, ignorant, simpering wimps and stupid government officials. What if people had refused en mass to take the polio vaccine? Hmmm? How about smallpox? Tuberculosis? A thought-provoking read. Where is my diazepam?

Some interesting ideas there from you! One line of thought here in Switzerland is that non-vaccinated people who need hospital treatment for COVID should have to pay the medical bills…

Another fine option you have there. Here, where many are “covered” (snicker) by insurance, there should also be a proviso that in such cases, non-vaxers could not benefit from private (or employer) insurance, leaving them to really bear hospitalization costs, if in fact they could get hospitalization, being moved to the end of priority lists.

Yet, under the Hippocratic Oath, doctors are obliged to
to provide medical assistance, even if the patient is ultimately unable to pay. In many cases the taxpayer will ultimately pick up the tab…

It is a ridiculous situation when all these incentives have to be offered to encourage people to simply do the right thing. Selfish sections of a sick self-centred society!
